Andreina Giron as an artist
We are back for more. Starting the official second round of artist features is Inglewood native Andreina Giron. Giron uses her roots to absorb the effects of social and economic change and translates the resulting emotions on paper and canvas. Her visual conversations tell tales of anxiety and longing, both tied to core memories of facing unwanted change.
Shifting between oil paint and ink & water color, she documents nostalgic landmarks and showcases the tension between a lived space and the discomfort one can experience; bridging two seemingly different themes into one reflection of her lived experience. The resulting conversations allow her to speak freely where words have failed her - and with those words connect to others in her community who have felt the loss of familiarity within their own environments. The resolve through human connection can ultimately spark and affirm the pride Giron feels for her hometown, and the personal evolution she has undergone in the process.
